Enthusiast website Latex 24/7 has announced more details of the Latex Fashion Awards event whose launch was covered in our March 20 Libidex Blog. Among the new details just released are the categories in which awards can be won, the first members of the judging panel, the first awards presenters to be signed up, and more.
In our earlier story we reported that Latex 24/7 was setting out not to copy other awards which choose their winners through public online voting. This is to avoid making the awards a popularity contest rather than one based on quality of work. Online voting, especially if encouraging multiple voting by a single person as some awards do, is a system obviously open to abuse.
The Latex Fashion Awards event will therefore invite the public to submit online nominations for awards, but the winners will be judged by a panel of industry experts, with one exception — the Fan Favourite Award, which will be based on public voting.

The latex awards hosts have now announced seven award categories that are intended to “highlight the achievements of the latex clothing community, spotlighting creative talent and celebrating its impact on the fashion industry globally”. Those categories are:
Best online shopping experience
Newcomer or emerging designer of the year
Best new collection
Best latex fashion featured in a movie, TV series or music video
Best latex fashion model of the year
Best masc-style designer of the year
Best femme-style designer of the year
Best celebrity latex outfit designer (this is the Fan Favourite award, the only one to be determined by public voting rather than by the judging panel)
Some of us might feel we could think of more than seven categories that could be legitimately included in a latex fashion awards event. But these awards are aiming for a modest start that can be expanded in future if their launch is well received.

It’s clear that considerable thought has gone into identifying the criteria for assessing the worthiness of nominees for each of the above awards (criteria the judging panel would presumably be expected to follow). There are one or two areas that could probably benefit from a bit of clarification, but nothing too serious.
Members of the judging panel so far announced are as follows:
Latex designer Laura Pulice of Vex Clothing (Long Beach CA)
Latex designer Beth Parkin (Derby) who produces garments for the likes of Poster Girl and Harri
Charmskool owner and kink fashion guru Alexandra Houston (London)
Latex designer Amentium Latex (UK)
Latex designer Reneé Masoomian (NYC)
Latex designer Caterina Schmitt of Kraken Counter Couture (London)
Latex designer Josh Champion of Magpie Latex (UK).
This is a strong designer-led panel with collectively a great deal of technical expertise and aesthetic sensibility. But as some more names are expected to be added, perhaps a couple of experts from other related branches of the industry could be included too?

As our earlier story on these awards explained, the first edition of the Latex Fashion Awards event will be hosted in a TV studio where it will be recorded for premiering on Latex 24/7’s YouTube channel. The awards organisers have been recruiting presenters with the aim of having a different industry presenter for each award. Presenters confirmed so far are:
Libidex, also a sponsor of the event, and hopefully needing no introduction!
Sigrid Latex, an independent latex fashion project based in France
Zoe Page, a popular UK presenter, performer, content creator and latex fan
Kat Bee aka kat_redux, a latex/alt/fetish model since 2017
PMV Latex, a Barcelona brand making custom wear for he/she/they
Just a thought here: while the desire to have European names among the presenters is admirable from an inclusivity perspective, it might be worth filling the final two presenting slots with people/brands who have strong international name recognition.
So when is it all actually happening? Latex 24/7 say that public nominations for the seven awards in the first Latex Fashion Awards event will open “soon”, but no firm date has yet been announced. The date for the awards presentation itself is still given as “late 2026”.
